Caring for our environment
Because the natural environment plays such a vital role in how we make our whisky, we're committed to doing everything we can to protect and preserve it.
CERTIFIED CARBON NEUTRAL
Kinglake Distillery was the first to produce an Australian certified carbon neutral whisky—achieved through a full carbon footprint audit, a commitment to ongoing annual reductions, and government-approved carbon offsetting.
RE-WILDING
At Kinglake Distillery, we’ve covenanted a third of our land to be rewilded into native temperate forest—creating a rich carbon sink and restoring crucial habitat for wildlife and endangered species.
After the devastating 2009 bushfires, 400 koalas were relocated here from French Island. The endangered greater glider still thrives in the area, and region also supports threatened plant species such as the Howitt daisy and the critically endangered Round-leaf Pomaderris.
BUYING LOCAL AND TRACEABILITY
We proudly source Australian ingredients wherever we can. 75% of our malt comes from Voyager Craft Malt in NSW, known for their commitment to sustainability and 100% traceability on every bag.
MINIMISING WASTE
After extracting the sugars needed for fermentation, the spent grain still holds plenty of nutritional value. Rather than waste it, local farmers collect it to feed their livestock. The pot ale—left in the still after distillation—is also rich in nutrients and is reused on our property as a natural soil enhancer.
