DISTILLER'S DIARY - 27TH JULY 2025

New team members this year.

I’ve always been more of a ‘cat person’—maybe it’s a UK thing? But when I was younger, I worked at a couple of places with Border Collies and fell in love with their boundless curiosity, energy, and joy for life.

We recently moved into the house on the distillery property, and the rest of the team—especially the younger members—decided there were no more excuses. To twist my arm, they took me to a Collie breeder to see a litter of fluffy chaos. There was only ever going to be one outcome.

After some Googling, I discovered female Collies are said to be less needy, more business-like (which appealed), so now we’re proud owners of Lily, the Chocolate Collie.

Now, when I put down my gloves, screwdriver or Tim-Tam and can’t find them again, there's someone else to blame besides the kids.

It’s great having company when I start distilling early—though I’m hoping Lily learns that footie at 5:30am, in the rain, is not so much fun for me.

Our only worry was the Silkie chickens, who’ve spent their lives being carried around in baskets, on heads and in pockets! Was there ever a fluffier, cuter livestock animal!  Emmie had a close shave early on, but they all seem to get along now. In fact, I even saw Charlie the rooster and Lily having a little play the other day.
